The Minister of Information and National Guidance, the Hon Kabakumba Matsiko, has said that President Museveni’s proposals to resolve the Bunyoro Question were wrongly presented as if they constituted a final decision on the matter. She said during a news conference held at Uganda Media Centre in Kampala.
‘His Excellence the President’s letter had guidelines to a cabinet sub-committee on how to resolve the Banyoro-Bafuruki [immigrants] question in Kibaale District. The key issues in the Bunyoro Question are Land Ownership, Economic Empowerment and Self Governance,’ said minister Matsiko.
A statement issued in Kampala read in part: The phenomenon of the Bafuruki is a recent occurrence. Much as it complicates the situation, it should not make us loose focus on the real issue. The Government is working on a formula whereby the indigenous Banyoro and Bafuruki can co-exist harmoniously.
The cabinet sub-committee on Bunyoro headed Hon. Beatrice Wabudeya also has Hon. Adolf Mwesige, Hon. Ahabwe Perez, and Hon. Kasaija Matia as members.
At the same conference, Minister Kabakumba Matsiko dismissed a statement made by Geoffrey Ekanya MP Tororo County claiming that rotten maize seeds distributed to Tororo residents as relief food were rotten.
‘Hon. Geoffrey Ekanya’s allegations that Government delivered rotten food to the people of Tororo are baseless and should be ignored,’ said Matsiko. ENDS
