An Egyptian company is set to invest in the rural electrification sub-sector in Uganda. The Egyptian Electrification Company will sink an initial investment of over US$35 millions with an eye on more investment in future.
This was revealed by Hon. Mona Omar, the junior minister in charge of African Affairs in Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Hon. Omar also praised the good relationship Egypt enjoys with Uganda. She was addressing the media at Uganda Media Centre on October 4. She told the media that “the relationship between Egypt and Uganda is one of the best.”
Hon. Mona Omar was on a visit to Uganda where she delivered an invitation from President Hosni Mubarak to President Yoweri Museveni for the forthcoming China-Africa Forum that will take place between November 8 and 9 2009 in Egypt. This conference will focus on food security, health, infrastructure and energy in Africa.
During her visit, she met the Minister of Trade, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Speaker to Parliament. She said that her interaction with Uganda government officials would help consolidate the bilateral relations between Uganda and Egypt.
Meanwhile two companies from the Arab Republic of Egypt are ready to boost the mining industry and the Rural Electrification project.
