President Closes Mbarara Leaders’ Course, Commends them on Environment Conservation

Tuesday 8th August 2017
President Yoweri Museveni has highly commended the leadership of Mbarara district for conserving the environment through urging wananchi to vacate wetlands, water bodies and forests. He called on the leaders to also interest themselves in what can bring about socio-economic transformation to societies.
“The role of leaders is social economic transformation of the people they lead,” he said.
The President made the remarks yesterday during the pass-out of Mbarara district leaders who have been attending a one week Political Education and Leadership Development Training at the Kyankwanzi-based National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi district. The President thanked participants for attending the course and observed that leaders fail to execute their roles because of lack of knowledge.
“You did well to come for this training because what causes leaders to fail is lack of knowledge. So, I am happy you came for knowledge,” he said.
The President who took the participants through an exhaustive lecture on the pillars and benefits of ideology, strategy and social economic transformation, urged the Mbarara leaders to impress upon the wananchi the necessity of stopping the negative and backward practice of land fragmentation. He noted that the practice fuels poverty.
“When fragmentation is stopped it will help us to transform our societies,” he said.
The President assured Mbarara district leaders that government would soon start the construction of Mbarara Central Market as all the necessary requirements for the project are in place.
The Commandant of the National Leadership Institute (NALI), Brigadier David Kyomuhangi, outlined the objectives of the retreat that included, among others, facilitating a development of the mindset that, he said, would help district leaders become drivers of socio-economic transformation in their areas.
While on the way from Kampala to Kyankwanzi, President Museveni made a stop in Buwasa village in Busiro North Constituency in Wakiso district where he bought soft drinks for the residents that stopped his motorcade to greet him.
He also made another stop at Kateera Biikira Primary School, Kateera Parish in Bukomero Sub-County of Kiboga district where he interacted with pupils during their break time.
