US-Africa Summit Good For Tackling Terrorism

Friday,24thJanuary 2014

President Yoweri Museveni has said that the proposed US-Africa Summit by US President Barrack Obama, if held, will be useful to African Countries as it will be used to dialogue on the problem of terrorism and the issue of promoting trade.
President Museveni was yesterday speaking at a meeting with a delegation of Congressmen and Senate Members led by Senator James Inhofe who called on him at State House-Entebbe.

He said that former US Presidents George Walker Bush and Bill Clinton convened similar meetings in Japan and Turkey where issues of trade between Africa and the Western world were discussed. On the deployment of UPDF to South Sudan President Museveni said that this was done under Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) arrangement following a request by the Southern Sudan Government to rescue civilians from being killed by the rebels loyal to the former Vice-President, Riack Machar.
The President attributed the success of UPDF in Somalia and South Sudan as a result of discipline in the army.
The delegation was accompanied by the American Ambassador to Uganda Mr. Scott de Lisi.
