GOVERNMENT WISHES ALL UGANDANS HAPPY RAMADAN

June 27th 2014.
PRESS RELEASE

Today Government of the Republic of Uganda joins with all Muslims around the world in welcoming the beginning of Ramadan and wishing you a blessed month.
Ramadan is celebrated by Muslims around the world, including Muslim Ugandans.  Ramadan is the month in which Muslims believe the Koran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, beginning with a simple word – IQRA. It is a time when Muslims reflect upon the wisdom and guidance that comes with faith and the responsibility that human beings have to one another, and to God.
Islamic values of advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and dignity of all human beings are shared by all of us, as human beings, and all of us working towards a brighter future for Uganda.  As you gather around families and friends to break bread at sundown, let us remember the spirit of Ramadan to come together to make a better country for ourselves and each other.
As we begin this season, Government calls upon all Ugandans to emulate and consolidate the Islamic teaching of peace and reconciliation for the common good.
Government wishes all Ugandans happy Ramadan.
