President attends New Year prayers at Rubindi Catholic Church

President Yoweri Museveni has hailed the Parish Priest of Rubindi Catholic Church in Kashaari North, Mbarara district, Rev. Fr. Felix Bikwatsizehi for being a fore sighted religious leader whose preaching and actions are in line with those of Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity. The President, therefore, urged other religious leaders to emulate the examples set by Fr. Bikwatsizehi.
Mr. Museveni made the remarks today at Rubindi Catholic Parish Church in Rubindi Town Council along the Mbarara Ibanda road where he, together with his wife, Mrs. Janet Museveni and members of their family, attended prayers to mark the beginning of the year 2018.
Speaking after listening to a report by Fr. Bikwatsizehi, which emphasised fighting household poverty by generating income by believers, spiritual nourishment, religious tolerance, promotion of health and education in the area, the President noted that the work and actions of Fr. Bikwatsizehi and the leadership of Rubindi Catholic Parish works, are in line with the true preaching of Jesus Christ.
Quoting the scriptures’ passage that says ‘we shall know them by their deeds’, President Museveni observed that the extemporal works of the leadership of Rubindi Catholic Parish that targets the betterment of the lives of the people, were clearly in the footsteps of the preaching and works that are aimed at the betterment and liberation of the poor and the disadvantaged.
“I love Christians whose teaching is line with that of Jesus that emphasises honesty as opposed to hypocrisy. We should also preach forgiveness because Jesus even forgave those who crucified him and this has been manifested here,” he noted.
The President further said that Fr. Bikwatsizehi and the leadership of Rubindi Parish are like the Biblical parable of the talents. He said that the Parish leadership has managed to use well the church resources at their disposal and multiplied them for the good of the Parish and its people.
He equally commended them for promoting religious unity and tolerance that has brought about harmony and development in the area.
President Museveni welcomed the proposal to develop Rubindi Parish into a centre for agricultural excellence in line with the Government’s Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) Programme where farmers can come and learn modern farming methods. He urged all religious leaders to join hands with the Government in fighting household poverty. He reminded them that once people are economically empowered they will be in a position to support religious institutions and pay tax to government which will ease the work of religious institutions and the government as well.
He used the occasion to appeal to parents to always pack lunch for their children in Universal Primary and Universal Secondary Education schools to ease their learning because it was very costly for government to provide lunch for all school going children. He also revealed that government has a mass plan to construct houses for teachers’ accommodation at their respective schools throughout the country to solve the accommodation problem in government schools.
The Auxiliary Bishop of Mbarara Archdiocese, Rt. Rev. Lambert Beinomugisha thanked the President for choosing to have New Year prayers in his the Archdiocese and for the support he has extended to Rubindi Parish overtime. He also commended Fr. Bikwatsizehi for the excellent leadership he has given to Rubindi Parish.
Kashaari North MP, Hon. Yaguma Rutashokwa decried the alarming level of corruption due to poor procurement law that has seen contractors do government work at exorbitant rates. He said this trend of affairs has greatly affected service delivery especially under the Local Government. He commended the people of his constituency for supporting the just passed constitutional amendment to remove the Presidential age limit adding that he is proud to have been among those that supported the bill.
Fr. Bikwatsizehi commended the President for his support to Rubindi Parish in the construction of their church, support to the Parish SACCO and to the Boda-Boda people in Rubindi town Council. He also thanked Mbarara Archbishop Most Rev. Paul Bakyenga and his Auxiliary Rt. Rev. Lambert Bainomugisha for the guidance to Rubindi Parish that has resulted in the expansion and development of the Parish.
