President Donates Shs.50m/= to Medical centre in Agago District

President Yoweri Museveni has today commissioned the newly constructed David Fagerlee Medical Centre in Adilang Sub-County, Agago district in Acholi Sub-Region in Northern Uganda and donated Shs.50 million towards its maintenance and its management as well.

David Fagerlee, an American businessman from the State of Minnesota, constructed the US$450,000 medical facility to help the community access free quality health services. The facility is equipped with qualified health personnel and modern solar equipment and is expected to reduce the distance covered by patients to Kitgum and Abim hospitals which are far from Agago district.

Agago district, which was curved out of Kitgum district, has no government referral hospital.

Mr. Fagerlee donated the hospital to Gulu Archdiocese and his link with the Archdiocese was through the Vicar General of Gulu Archdioces, Monsignor Matthew Odong who invited him in 2009 to witness the opening of Archbishop Flynn Secondary School in Pader district.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Museveni thanked Mr. Fagerlee for the donation of the health centre. He also commended Monsignor Odong who linked him to Adilang Sub-County.

The President said the facility will complement government efforts to reduce maternal mortality rates in the country and also promote immunization. He also cautioned the people of Adilang against engaging in promiscuity it would make them risk contracting Hepatitis B and HIV/AIDS.

Mr. Fargerlee thanked President Museveni for honoring his invitation and his decision to help the community in Adilang Sub-County was personal adding that he wanted everyone to have a place to receive medical care.

State Minister for Primary Health Care, Dr. Moriku Joyce thanked President Museveni for creating an enabling peaceful environment that has made the construction of the medical facility a success.
She revealed that her Ministry will construct more health centers and also upgrade Kalongo Medical Centre III to IV to serve the people of Adilang better.

The ceremony was attended by Archbishop of Gulu Archdiocese, the Most Rev. John Baptist Odama, State Minister for Northern Uganda Hon. Grace Kwiyuucwiny, NRM Vice Chairman for Northern Uganda Mr. Sam Engola and Agago County MP, Hon. Otto Edward Makmot, among others.
