PRESS RELEASE

US Aid Cuts to Uganda

The United States on Thursday said it has cut aid to Uganda, imposed visa restrictions and cancelled a regional military exercise in response to what they called a Ugandan law that imposes harsh penalties on homosexuality.

Uganda considers this announcement by the US regrettable as some of  the halted funding and programs in Uganda are those  that will affect the most venerable people that the US government purports to support and aims to protect.

However there are more areas of cooperation between the Uganda and the US, as the two countries continue to share a lot in common on both regional and international issues.

The government of Uganda continues to dialogue with other partners in this regard.
