“Continue support to NRM” – President Museveni to Hoima Residents

Tuesday, September 24, 2019

President Yoweri Museveni, who is the National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), has urged the people of Kigorobya County in particular and Hoima District in general, to continue supporting the Movement because it is the Movement that brought about peace and stability in Uganda, ushered in the politics of national unity and revitalized the national economy.

The President made the appeal yesterday at Kigorobya Muslim Primary School in Kigorobya Town Council, Hoima District in Bunyoro Sub-Region at a by-election campaign rally as he solicited support for NRM’s flag bearer, Ms. Businge Harriet Mugenyi, who is tussling it out with the opposition for Hoima District Woman Member of Parliament seat. The by-election is on Thursday 26th September 2019.

The slot fell vacant after the creation of Kikuube District out of Hoima District. The then NRM’s Hoima District Woman MP, Tophas Kaahwa Byagira, opted to occupy the Kikuube seat leaving the Hoima slot vacant.

“Hoima and Bunyoro in general has been here since the creation of planet earth 4.5 million years ago.  Many governments have been in Uganda but this unprecedented development has only come during the National Resistance Movement government and it should not be taken for granted,” he said.

“You can see the many roads being tarmacked in Bunyoro Region. Nine out of ten Sub-Counties that make Hoima District, are already connected to the national grid; Hoima District alone has 269 Primary Schools and 32 Secondary Schools which wasn’t the case in the past,” he added.

President Museveni told the residents of Kigorobya that the Movement deserves support because of the developments the country has achieved based on the right plan to transform Uganda and guarantee her stability.

He thanked the people of Bunyoro and many other parts of Uganda for continued support to the Movement and also for always voting to extend the Movement mandate that has enabled the NRM government to propel further Uganda’s development tempo. The President, therefore, appealed to the people of Hoima District to always vote NRM candidates at all electoral levels in order to strengthen the Party, create cohesion and develop the country the more.

Commenting on elements that have made it a habit to politicize the discovered oil and gas resource in Bunyoro Sub-Region, the President asked the population to ignore them. He described those elements as detractors who have nothing to offer to wananchi. He informed the people of the area that oil was discovered by NRM adding that the Movement will always ensure that the oil resource is put to good use for the benefit of Bunyoro and the entire country.

On the reported increase in cases of land conflicts in Bunyoro due to the influx of people from neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo and the discovery of oil in the region, Mr. Museveni observed that people were coming to Uganda from the neighbouring countries because Uganda is an island of peace in a largely volatile Great Lakes Region.
