MOROTO DISTRICT: President Yoweri Museveni who is also the NRM Presidential flag-bearer has pledged government support to Karamoja region that is threatened by food shortages caused by the recent locusts invasion, floods and Covid-19 among others. President Museveni promised to engage the Prime Minister’s office to come to the regions rescue with some relief.

Museveni yesterday held a meeting with all the NRM Parliamentary and district flag bearers from the 9 district of Karamoja sub-region.

The meeting that was aimed at planning a proper mobilization of the region for the NRM was held at Morolinga State Lodge in Moroto district, Karamoja.

During the meeting, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni assured the leaders of total government commitment of securing the region and ensuring total peace in all the districts.

“On the issue of security, its true we had withdrawn the brigades to further train them since they had become more like villagers in the area,” he said.

Because of the unreliability of LDUs, the President said government is now re-strategizing to re-enforce brigades to have at least 5 brigades in the region.

When asked by leaders in the region to address the lawlessness seen in Kampala where youths have been rioting and beating up every one putting on yellow colors, Gen. Museveni emphasized that all those attacking NRM people will lose ‘appetite’ for violence adding that they are going to deal with them.

“When they see us soft people, they miss-calculate but they will learn. Why are you attacking our people? How will you govern Uganda without respecting other people?” he wondered.

On the issue of cattle compensation, President Museveni who talked with the Attorney General for the update of this payment advised leaders that Government will soon pay all claimants who have been verified and cleared.

“The Attorney General is going to start paying claimants who are cleared as others are verified,” he said.

President Museveni promised to re-instate State House Scholarships after leaders in Karamoja and Acholi sub-regions asked him to do so as they had benefited greatly out of them.

Karamoja Sub-region is made up of nine districts of Moroto, Kotido, Nakapiripirit, Napak, Abim, Amudat, Karenga, Kaabong, and Nabiratuk.

The region voted overwhelmingly for the NRM party with 97% in the 2016 general elections.
