President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg to attend a two-day Second Russia-Africa summit, has today on the sidelines of the summit met and held a meeting with a committee of the African peace initiative on the crisis in Ukraine that recently met Ukrainian President H.E Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin in an attempt to broker and end the conflict in Ukraine.

President Yoweri Museveni this evening arrived in the Russian port city of Saint Petersburg to attend the Second Russia-African summit that will run from the 27th-28th of July 2023.

The President arrived at Pulkovo International Airport in the city of Saint Petersburg and was received by the Russian Federation Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Bogdan Mikhail Lleonidovich and many other senior government officials from the Russian federation.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today left for Russia to join other African leaders for the second Russia- Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum.

President Museveni who is also the commander in chief of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) has urged the forces to emphasize the ideology of Patriotism while serving the people of Uganda.

“Don’t look at the army as a source of jobs. Yes, it might be a job but also there’s service to the country,” Gen. Museveni said, reminding them that they succeeded in building a strong army because of being patriotic and working without pay.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has received a special message from the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), H.E Felix Tshisekedi. 

The Special message was delivered by President Tshisekedi's envoy led by the State Minister for Regional Integration in DRC, Mbusa Nyamwisi and the Special Advisor to President Tshisekedi, Tony Kanku Shiku. They were accompanied by Uganda’s Ambassador to DRC, Farid Kaliisa among other DRC senior government officials.

The President of the Republic of Senegal, H.E Macky Sall has described his Ugandan counterpart, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as a freedom fighter who has made a lot of sacrifices to ensure peace and security reigns in Uganda, East Africa and the entire African continent.

The Muslim Fraternity led by the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje has lauded President Yoweri Museveni for availing the Iran’s leader, H.E Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi to the Muslim community. 

“We express our special gratitude to His Excellency, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for giving us that profound opportunity to be a part of the programme of your official visit, May Allah guide him, lead him to other levels of prosperity,” he said.
