President Museveni to NRM, Opposition, ‘Harmonise’

Friday, May 7, 2021

STATE HOUSE, ENTEBBE: President Yoweri Museveni has called on both the ruling party Members of Parliament and those of the opposition in the 11th Parliament to team up and harmornise on a framework for equal distribution of national resources for effective service delivery to the grass root people.

The President was recently speaking to a section of opposition youth group code named ‘Red Top Brigade’ who approached the President to reconcile with him over threatening political violence following his overwhelming victory in the recently concluded January general elections.

The group originally with the agenda Museveni ‘Tajja kulayila’ had vowed to cause havoc in the country by disrupting the swearing ceremony of the President-elect slated for 12 May 2021.

The President explained that the opposition in Uganda was informal.

“Its’ direction of politics is divergent to national development, divisive and sectarian. For the opposition to keep people undeveloped means it is the enemy of its own people. The reason being that it lacks politically focused leaders who cannot even feel embarrassed to spread the falsehood against the NRM party,” he said.

The President advised the youth that hard work was the only way to go by addressing the Socio-Economic Advancement of the people. “Whether you support or do not support NRM, you can still develop by individual innovation,” he said.

Mr. Museveni commended the group for being open to government and welcomed them from politics of ‘fakeness’ and urged them to come together to build capacity for solving development hindrances as Ugandans.

He challenged them; that as youth, they should appreciate  government for minding their health and ensuring they develop to their full potential because of its massive campaign against the six killer disease through immunization for every child.

The Minister for Security Gen. Elly Tumwine said that the message was clear to the group that has been violent to both the government and the President and that they have reconciled.

He however warned the group that ‘You disturb the peace of the country, you are in trouble.’

The Coordinator between the Red Top Brigade and government, Ambassador Joseph Ocwete informed the President that he mobilised the group to lay down their tools against government and the President-elect and that they would support governments’ peace, security and development efforts.

The Red Top Brigade Mobiliser Charles Mutaasa Kafeero told the meeting that around March 2021, he convened a meeting for the group to agree to meet the President before swearing in day as one of the resolutions to ensure sustained peace; reasoning that it was unfair to cause destruction on the infrastructure development that government has put in place and hence being regarded as socio-economic and political saboteurs of their own country.
