Good morning to you All

It is my honour and privilege to officially launch the 31st National Agricultural Show and the 4th National Agricultural Education Show, both of which will be held at the Agricultural Showgrounds in Jinja, in partnership with the Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE), Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF),Ministry of Education and Sports and other stakeholders.
These two flagship events come at a time when Uganda is steadily working to reposition agriculture as a modern, productive, and profitable sector. As many of you are aware, agriculture remains the backbone of Uganda’s economy, employing over 68% of the working population, contributing 24% to GDP, and accounting for the bulk of our export earnings.
Yet, despite this significance, the sector continues to face persistent challenges such as; low productivity due to limited use of improved technologies, climate change and extreme weather conditions, post-harvest losses and inadequate value addition, limited access to markets especially among smallholder farmers and a youth population that remains largely underutilized, with many still viewing agriculture as a last resort.
In our national agricultural calendar, these events offer a national platform to overcome the above highlighted challenges. The events also are a celebration of our progress, innovation, and collaboration across the agriculture sector. They provide vital platforms for farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, researchers, students and youth, government institutions, private sector actors, and the wider public to interact, learn, and share knowledge for the transformation of our agriculture and food systems.
The 31st National Agricultural Show
The 31st National Agricultural Show will take place from 27th June to 5th July 2025, under the theme: “Technological Innovations Driving Farm Wealth.” This theme aligns perfectly with the Government’s strategic direction of modernizing agriculture, enhancing productivity, and increasing household incomes through the adoption of science, research, and digital technologies in farming and agribusiness.
We are pleased to announce that H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda is expected to officiate as the Chief Guest at the Opening Ceremony on Tuesday, 1st July 2025.
This show will host a wide array of local, regional, and international exhibitors who will display cutting-edge agricultural machinery, precision farming solutions, value addition technologies, smart irrigation systems, and climate-resilient practices. There will also be exhibitions by our research institutions, financial service providers, agri-tech innovators, and farmer organizations.
We call upon all Ugandans especially individual farmers, farmer groups, cooperatives, associations, and entrepreneurs to attend, learn, network, and adopt these technologies to improve farm productivity and profitability.
The 4th National Agricultural Education Show
Following the main show, the 4th National Agricultural Education Show will run from 6th to 12th July 2025, under the theme: “Seeds of Change: Young People Driving Innovations to Harness Agricultural Wealth.” This event is dedicated to engaging young people, inspiring them to take up agriculture as a viable career, and providing a platform to showcase youth-led innovations across the value chain.
We are honoured that Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, is expected to be the Chief Guest at the Opening Ceremony on Wednesday, 9th July 2025.
The Education Show will feature school and university exhibitions, agricultural clubs, young agri-preneurs, and mentorship sessions with industry leaders. It is a key initiative in our ongoing efforts to promote, attract, and retain youth within the agricultural sector, as a means of addressing unemployment and boosting rural development.
Launch Invitation and Call to Action
Both shows are being organized in close collaboration with the Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE), who continue to play a pivotal role in mobilizing stakeholders and coordinating activities of the agricultural shows.
We are officially launching these events today, and I invite all stakeholders including ministries, agencies, development partners, civil society, the media, and the general public to support and participate in these shows.
Let us work together to promote innovation, skills development, and market-driven agriculture that transforms the lives of millions of Ugandan farmers and agribusinesses.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I wish to thank UNFFE and all our partners for their tireless efforts in organizing these important events. I also extend my appreciation to the media for your continued support in informing and mobilizing the public.
Together, let us harness innovation, empower our youth, and build a prosperous, food-secure Uganda.
I now declare the 31st National Agricultural Show and the 4th National Agricultural Education Show officially launched.
Thank you, and May God bless you all.
